The Ukrainian astronomy community took an important step towards defining concrete actions for its recovery and long-term integration into the European Research Area. During the European Astronomical Society (EAS) Annual Meeting 2026 in Lausanne, Switzerland, Ukrainian astronomers and colleagues from across Europe came together in the special session “Saving astronomy in Ukraine: what can we do as a community?”
A central element of the session was the presentation of the Recovery Plan for Ukrainian Astronomy. Developed by the Ukrainian astronomical community over the past year, the roadmap outlines a long-term vision for rebuilding the field through strengthened international collaboration, investment in people and infrastructure, and closer integration with European research networks. The plan is intended as a living document that will continue to evolve through consultation with both Ukrainian and European stakeholders.
ASTRONET welcomes this community-driven effort and recognises the importance of international cooperation in supporting the long-term resilience and recovery of Ukrainian astronomy
